Statutory framework
Prosecutions run under the Penal Code 1871, Misuse of Drugs Act, Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act, and CPC 2010. Serious offences are tried before a High Court judge alone.
Joint charges — Section 34
Multiple accused in one incident may face charges read with Section 34 (common intention). Defence work focuses on each person's actual role and whether reclassification to Section 146 (rioting) or Section 324 (hurt) is available.
